  Artist Statement

The Confines that Bind Us. The installation was housed in a small & narrow closet in a deserted building on campus.
After painting the walls a putrid shade of yellow the room was draped in cloth dyed the same shade.
The cloth above swooped down to create a womb like atmosphere for the viewer inside. Inside the 'belly' of the cloth were stitched art negatives.
Two frames adorned the interior. The front or left side of the room contained 3 eggs yokes cracked and splattered on mattboard.
at the foot of the cracked yoke image was a small table with a row of orange crayons and paper.
The right side of the room contained a framed image of a photograph shot by the artist in Ireland of a B&B's wallpaper.
The viewer entered the space for 2min:20sec.
The artist lead them blind folded into the exterior room. Took off their blindfold to reveal the door with the lock. Escorted them into the room past the straight jacket and locked the door behind them.
They were instructed to use the materials presented during the two minutes and leave the items how they reacted to the surroundings.
A heater was placed inside the room before the viewers entered to raise the temperature above comfortable levels.
During the confinement the artist implanted a recording of herself at the age of 6 years old. Only a muffled hum was heard at first and as the time progressed the voice became more prounced to the viewer as a childs voice playing with objects and talking to herself..
